When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less
important whether I am afraid. ― Audre Lorde

My Approach

There is a long list of psychotherapeutic frameworks and theories to guide practitioners and their work. I take an integrative approach, which means I draw from various modalities in my work with clients and customize each session to the needs of the person. First and foremost, I am humanistic and relational in my approach which means I believe in the inherent worth of each person and trust in their expertise and knowledge about themselves while using the relationship between us as the primary supportive tool.

The other approaches I include:

  • Psychodynamic: exploration of the unconscious which is helpful for making sense of maladaptive behaviours and unwanted patterns

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): a form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) that utilizes logic and reflexive techniques to regulate emotions and interrupt extreme thinking

  • Attachment Theory: proposes that the type of relationship we form with our primary caregivers as infants informs our adult relationships which can help understand unwanted relationship behaviours

  • Mindfulness-Based: mindfulness draws on reflective practices to build self-awareness and can include breathing techniques to manage one’s nervous system

  • Trauma-Informed: trauma-informed care starts with the question “what happened to you?” as opposed to “what’s wrong with you?” and entails sensitivity to unknown triggers

An amazing part of being a psychotherapist is that the learning never ends. I am pursuing additional trainings in to expand my knowledge and learn new modalities. I will update my website and clients as I go along!
